The extremely talented security team at Keen Security Labs have already confirmed that they had managed to jailbreak iOS 11.3.1 prior to this video going into the public domain.

Interestingly, Zheng isn’t the first individual to successfully jailbreak iOS 11.3.1 either. Zheng previously showed off the same exploit working on iOS 11.3. Development of AppTapp Installer halted with iOS 1.1.2, after which the codebase started to rot (in particular leading to issues due to the root->mobile user account switch) subsequently distributed versions were binary patched by jailbreak developers. That may still be the case, and CoolStar may be working on that behind-the-scenes, but it’s Alibaba’s Min Zheng who has drawn first blood by showing off an iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak on video, although like Zheng’s previous endeavors, this may never be made available to public. Everyone in the community took this as a hint that he would be working toward releasing an update to the Electra jailbreak to support those firmware versions. On the back of Min Zheng’s original tweet, Electra developer CoolStar decided to get involved in the action, suggesting that device owners should stay on their current firmware if they were currently running a device on iOS 11.2-11.2.6.
